Assessment
At Hampton Primary School, we use a range of assessment practices to improve student learning and gain a deep understanding of student growth and achievement. These assessment practices have three overarching purposes:
- Assessment for learning: occurs when our teachers use inferences about student progress to inform their teaching (formative assessment)
- Assessment as learning: occurs when our students reflect on and monitor their progress to inform their future learning goals (formative assessment)
- Assessment of learning: occurs when our teachers use evidence of student learning to make judgements on student achievement against goals and standards (summative assessment)
Reporting
Hampton Primary School is continuing to develop more effective methods to measure student progress, track learning and communicate achievement. Our school has combined the end of semester reporting process (managed on Compass) with an ongoing continuous reporting digital portfolio process (managed on Seesaw). This shifts the focus from simply a review of learning at the end of the semester to an ongoing student-centred approach that effectively documents celebrations of learning and provides feedback and reflection for students and parents in a structured and timely manner. This approach allows for growth and progress to be reported more frequently and communicates students’ achievements in a number of formats. It also contains critical reflection from students on their overall learning experience, the value it provided to them and what their next steps might be.
