Love of Sport
Physical Education at Hampton focuses on students developing a love of sport, through having the skills, fitness, strength and attitude to successfully engage in competitive and recreational sports throughout their school life and beyond.
In weekly sessions, students are exposed to a large variety of sports and skills. This begins with practising and mastering the Fundamental Motor Skills and then using these in later years to engage in more competitive and tactical based sports and activities. A strong focus during school lessons is the importance of fun, teamwork, technique, participation, continual improvement and sportsmanship.
Integral to Physical Education is the acquisition of movement skills, concepts and strategies to enable students to confidently, competently and creatively participate in a range of physical activities. As a foundation for lifelong physical activity participation and enhanced performance, students develop proficiency in movement skills, physical activities and movement concepts and acquire an understanding of the science behind how the body moves. In doing so, they develop an appreciation of the significance of physical activity, outdoor recreation and sport both in Australian society and globally.
Students in Grades 4-6 have the opportunity to represent Hampton in a large variety of sports against other schools in our District. Positions in these teams are highly competitive and great pride is taken by students when they represent the school. Hampton is a high-performing school, with many students progressing through District, Divisional, Regional and State competitions. We are proud to have won multiple state titles across a variety of team sports.
All sports sessions take place in our expansive facilities that include a multi-purpose, synthetic grass field, basketball courts, netball courts, and close proximity to excellent council facilities and the beach for weekly sport.
As well as weekly lessons, students also enjoy:
- A two-week swimming program (Foundation - Grade 5)
- Annual Mini Olympics (Foundation - Grade 2)
- Weekly clinics with specific sports associations and clubs
- Weekly intra-school sport (Grade 3-4)
- Weekly inter-school sport (Grade 5-6)
- House and District Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country (Grade 3-6)
- Community Sports (Grade 6) which is a selection of ‘different’ sports (e.g. croquet, lifesaving)
